The CENTENARY GAMES project

“EUROPEAN GAMES FROM THE CHILDHOOD”: A Digital Treasury of Traditions:

The project preserves the magic of the past for the future through the publication of the digital book “EUROPEAN GAMES FROM THE CHILDHOOD”. It acts as a living bridge between generations, containing a detailed archive of traditional games from Bulgaria, Italy, and Türkiye. The publication complements a series of large-scale photo exhibitions held within the project, which bring to light the personal and collective memories of games shared across several generations.

The Archiving Process

The content of this treasury is the result of extensive research into family albums and local history. Through mapping and presenting archival photographs in international exhibitions, authentic stories of games played a century ago have been collected. These displays inspire families to share their personal “childhood games”, allowing this invaluable cultural heritage to be documented and protected for the future.

Accessibility and Educational Value

The archive features photographs and detailed descriptions of 36 traditional games, categorized into “Soul”, “Mind”, and “Body”. Beyond serving as a permanent historical resource, the book is designed as a freely accessible digital tool for families, schools, and organizations. The project’s core mission is to make these historical games a living part of modern daily life and to inspire future generations.
